In Yinchuan and other parts of Ningxia, authorities are creating public‑welfare postal‑delivery positions in rural areas. One such worker, Yang Airu from Jinghe Village, now has a stable job right outside her home and earns an extra ¥1,850 (about $260) each month.
She uses China Post’s “Zhongyou E‑Tong” system to collect and deliver parcels, send SMS notifications, and even provide door‑step service. In doing so she can look after her own family while also becoming the “last‑100‑meters” messenger who links villagers to the outside world.
This initiative is a joint effort of several regional departments. According to the official notice, public‑service posts are to be set up in villages that have both an economic base and a need for delivery services. So far the program covers 20 counties, 132 towns and 543 villages, and it has established 2,408 village‑level postal convenience stations. To date more than 800,000 pieces of mail have been collected and delivered through the system, with daily peaks close to 10,000 items.
